Camp Ferncrest — Acadia

Sedgwick, Maine
Glamping in geodesic domes under coastal Maine pines. No tent, no sleeping bag, no problem. A new operation in Sedgwick that's bringing a different kind of camping to the peninsula.

Brian and Joanna left city life in 2020 and started Ferncrest at an underutilized 1960s campground in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains. The concept worked — comfortable, fully outfitted camping that removes the gear barrier. They've since expanded to Oklahoma and now Maine, with the Acadia location in Sargentville, Sedgwick.

The Maine site sits in coastal pines, positioned as a basecamp for exploring the region. It's under an hour from Acadia National Park and about 20 minutes from Deer Isle across the bridge. The lodging is geodesic domes — modern structures that feel more like a cabin than a tent, fully outfitted so you show up with nothing but clothes and curiosity.

The grounds include a general store, bathhouses with toiletries provided, an outdoor play space for kids, and a communal front lawn for gathering. It's designed for people who want campfires and stargazing without sleeping on the ground.

This is a different model than the traditional Maine campground. It's glamping — priced accordingly — but for visitors who wouldn't otherwise camp, it opens up a way to experience the peninsula that a hotel room can't match.
