The Galley Grocery
The grocery store for north Deer Isle for over 40 years — owned by the Island Employee Cooperative, four miles from the bridge on Route 15, across from the high school. Open seven days a week, year-round. The pizza gets mentioned in almost every review, usually as the best around.
The Galley has been serving Deer Isle residents and visitors from its spot on Route 15 for more than four decades. Like Burnt Cove Market in Stonington, it's part of the Island Employee Cooperative — meaning the people working the counter have ownership stakes in the place.
The store does full grocery: fresh produce, custom-cut meats, chicken, pork, ground beef, local crabmeat; a freezer section; a deli with custom-sliced meats and cheeses and made-to-order sandwiches; and a bakery with cookies, bread, muffins, and pies. A "Beer Cave" walk-in cooler handles the cold beer; a wine section rounds out the alcohol selection.
The pizza has its own reputation — "said by many to be the best around." Fresh to order, customizable, available as specialty pies or plain. The grill runs hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken burgers, hot dogs, and fries Monday through Friday, with call-ahead takeout available Wed–Fri 11am–5pm. Hot food items run on the grill-prep rotation.
They offer a 10% case discount on grocery items bought in bulk (excludes sale, alcohol, and tobacco), and a frequent shopper program: 1 point per dollar, $5 off at 500 points.

What Visitors Say
"It's not very clean but it has what you need for the area. It does have a great drink variety though."
"A fine little grocery store with a reasonable selection and likely most basics you could be looking for along with staff that I wouldn't complain about. I would not recommend their cold prepared foods, but I've only had a shared singular experience with someone else and we both found our choices leaving a bit to be desired."
"Great little store. A bit short on produce but that's probably due to the location. The woman at checkout is hilarious, don't take it seriously!"
