A family-owned seafood market five minutes from Stonington Harbor, with a smokehouse running year-round. Their smoked mussels — plain, honey mustard, chipotle, garlic and olive oil, salsa — have become the signature product, but the live lobster, daily-picked crabmeat, and rotating fresh fish keep locals coming back.
Coldwater Seafood sits five minutes from the docks of Stonington — Maine's top lobster port — and the proximity shows. Live lobsters come through here daily, priced competitively with the boats. Local Dungeness and Jonah crab gets picked fresh by experienced hands every morning; the crabmeat sells retail and goes wholesale to restaurants, dealers, and grocery stores around the region.
The smokehouse is what sets Coldwater apart. The smoked mussels are the signature product — done in-house with careful attention to smoke level and texture, in six flavors: plain, honey mustard, salsa, chipotle, garlic and olive oil, and zesty Italian. They also smoke salmon, haddock, mackerel, arctic char, bluefish, and trout. Hot smoked salmon, kipper fillets, finnan haddie — the list is long and serious.
The market also carries lobster pre-picked, steamed, or live, plus a rotating selection of fresh fish, scallops, and local clams. They ship nationwide for those who want to take Stonington home.
