Burnt Cove Boil

Stonington, Maine
Steamed lobster and crab at picnic tables on Fifield Point, in the shadow of a working lobster wharf that's been family-owned since 1940. One seating per night, 6pm, Monday through Friday, June through August. The lobster was caught today. The sunset is free.

Burnt Cove Boil runs on the grounds of Fifield Lobster Co, where four generations of Fifields have been buying lobster from Stonington fishermen since 1940. Host Jake McCarty — a Deer Isle resident — set up picnic tables at Fifield Point and started doing the simplest, most honest version of a Maine seafood dinner: steamed lobster and crab, sourced that day from working fishermen, served on a waterfront where the actual boats are still visible.

Stonington is the top lobster port in Maine. In 2022, nearly 12 million pounds of lobster were landed here. When you sit down at a Burnt Cove Boil picnic table, the lobster you're eating was likely caught within miles of where you're sitting, by someone whose boat you can see from your bench.

Jake knows the industry and talks with guests while they eat. This isn't dinner theater — it's a real working waterfront with a person who can explain what you're looking at. You might catch boats unloading their haul. You might see seals chasing fish through the cove. You will almost certainly see one of Stonington's signature sunsets as the light drops behind the western islands.

Season runs June through August, weather permitting. Reservations open May 1, 2026. This is not a large operation, and it books out. Plan early.
