27 Fathoms Waterfront Grille

Stonington, Maine 4.7 (99)
A mid-priced waterfront restaurant that fills a real gap in Stonington's dining scene — sit on the deck, order the swordfish or the oysters, watch the harbor. Fresh local oysters from Deer Isle Oyster Co arrive at the table the way they should: cold, clean, and not fussed over.

27 Fathoms occupies one of the better views in Stonington, and it knows it. The deck hangs over the water, the breeze comes off the harbor, and the menu leans into what the location demands: local seafood, big portions, honest preparation.

The kitchen works with what's nearby. Oysters come from Deer Isle Oyster Co. The Key lime pie is made fresh daily — it shows up in multiple reviews as the thing to finish with. The swordfish regularly earns praise, and the crab cakes are a recurring point of pride.

For groups of five or more, they ask you to call ahead. Walk-ins are welcome otherwise — no reservations needed. For private events, the dining room holds 25 to 40, and the deck can accommodate up to 75. Seasonal pricing applies for buyouts.

The name references the depth of the waters just offshore — these aren't decorative fathoms.

What Visitors Say

"Came here for dinner on recommendation of our Airbnb host. We had 2 lobster rolls, seafood pasta, haddock sandwich, fish and chips and a clam chowder. The food was good but not excellent. The service was not good. We were denied entry upstairs and they suggested we find a different place to eat (there are not many other places to eat in the area) but somehow they didn’t know that there was some space downstairs at the bar. I have a feeling part of the reason we were treated like that was that we are from overseas."

"We had the blackened fish tacos and clam chowder. It was wonderful. Next time I’ll will try the bruschetta which the table next to us had and it looked great. The view was also beautiful. Highly recommend"

"We had a very good experience with dinner at 27 fathoms on a Tuesday night in mid-September. We arrived early (just after 5) and were seated right away. Service was very good and everyone enjoyed their meals; the atmosphere on the deck was fantastic with the view over the working harbor on a beautiful evening. The fish and chips were excellent!"
