Sea Kayak Stonington operates out of the Merchant Row Building at 9 Thurlows Hill Road in Stonington, and runs guided trips through one of the most paddler-friendly coastlines in Maine. The standard trip is roughly four hours and visits two islands: one with a quarry pond swim and fog forest hike, the other with shell beaches and ocean views. Trip content is adapted to group ability and interests.

Guides hold Maine Registered Sea Kayak Guide certification. The standard guide fee adds $20 per person to the rental rate; half-day single kayak rentals run around $52. For private trips, shorter 2.5-hour options and longer 6-hour trips are available ($290 for the first paddler, $75 per additional). Multi-day guided trips carry a $150/night guide fee.

The operation runs full operations June 10 through September 1, with weekday availability continuing into September. Advance booking is strongly recommended for summer weekends. Contact via eric@stoningtonpaddle.com or (207) 200-6547.

What Visitors Say

"Everything was smooth sailing! Booking over the phone with Bobbi was very easy and she was flexible and understanding about our loosey goosey arrival time due to some long travel to get to Stonington. She was very accommodating! She was also such a delight and joy, welcoming us into the store and giving us a run down of important information when we first arrived. The kayaks were ready at our scheduled time and Michael & Rebecca were there to help us load the kayaks to the launch and provide us with gear. They had plenty of spare dry bags for us to use, provided us with lifejackets, sponges, and a compass and gave a nice explanation of the islands as well as recommendations for our overnight camping. Michael, Rebecca, and Bobbi are a lovely and organized team. Would certainly rent from them again!"

"I joined Stonington Kayak for an all day outing on 9/10. The trip leader Mike was great, had great tips on paddling, and knew the area well. He frequently checked with us to assess energy and preferences as to breaks and island ‘explores,’ and shared photos he took along the route. I loved paddling along the many iconic small islands that surround the harbor, always awe inspiring with boulders, granite ledges, occasional beaches, and greenery of pine trees! So many treasures on our Maine Coast, and a great way to get up close and soak in all the views! I can’t wait to join them again for more exploring on the water!"

"I booked a full-day private kayak tour with Sea Kayak Stonington for me and my mom, and it was an absolutely unforgettable experience! Neither of us had any kayaking experience, but our guide Michael made everything feel effortless. He was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and helpful, which allowed us to fully relax and enjoy the breathtaking beauty around us. Michael planned the route perfectly. We never felt rushed or tired, and we also didn’t miss a single must-see. Over the course of the day, we visited more than four islands, each with its own charm. We hiked, swam, and also just sat back with some snacks, taking in the peaceful surroundings and stunning views. Michael also shared insights about the local wildlife we encountered, which added a wonderful educational touch to the adventure (we were lucky and saw so a big group of seals chilling and swimming!) There was even a hiccup after we returned—our Uber got canceled and we were basically stranded. But Michael and another staff member, Jen, went above and beyond to help us out. Their kindness and care truly touched both me and my mom. Highly recommend Sea Kayak Stonington if you’re looking for a serene, well-paced, and beautifully guided outdoor experience in Stonington. Thank you again to Michael and Jen for making this day special!"
