Carolyn Walton Gallery
Carolyn Walton paints Deer Isle and Maine landscapes in oil — Webb Cove at sunrise, low tide at Birch Beach — and shows the work from her own gallery on North Deer Isle Road, open Thursday through Sunday from May to September.
Walton's gallery is at 131 North Deer Isle Road, operating on a clear seasonal schedule and also available by appointment year-round. Her paintings focus on the local landscape: the particular light on Deer Isle coves, tidal flats, and shoreline. Works like Sunrise in Webb Cove, Deer Isle (20x24", oil) and Low Tide at Birch Beach give a sense of her approach — direct observation of the specific, not generalized coastal scenery.
Walton's work has broader reach outside Deer Isle: she's represented at the Jud Hartmann Gallery in Blue Hill (79 Main Street), and has shown in Connecticut and Vermont as well. Her primary base and gallery are on the island, though her practice connects to the wider Maine art circuit.
The gallery doubles as her studio, which means visiting during open hours puts you in the working space of an active painter, not just a display room.
