What Visitors Say

"Thank you, IHT, for making available to the public some of the most beautiful areas on and around Deer Isle. It takes organizations like IHT to pull together funding and strategic & operational expertise to ensure at least some public access to land that would have otherwise become private enclaves."

"This organization is doing amazing work! Their efforts are helping to preserve and protect beautiful places on the coast so that people can access the shore, and have peaceful walking trails in the woods, and making sure that less land is lost to development. Animals and birds are loosing more and more of their natural habitat. Sometimes humans “dont know what they’ve got till it’s gone”. If you are visiting the island from “away” or from “the wrong side of the bridge” as the locals humorously like to say, don’t miss out on visiting the Barred Island Preserve. It is AMAZING! A few other nice ones are Tennis Preserve, Shore Acres and Scott’s Landing. Thank you to the people at Island Heritage Trust for your efforts in preserving these wonderful coastal treasures!"

"Shore Acres Preserve is a gem. Love the well marked paths over the pine roots, the meadow and the two miles of coastline. Beautiful spots for a meditation abound."
